Launch Week Recap
The Red Woman on Mars is out in the world!
Has it really only been a week since The Red Woman on Mars came out in the world? I have so much fun stuff to share.
First off — we had a wonderful launch party at Dandelion Bookshop. Jennifer van der Kleut was an excellent conversation partner and asked such great questions. I’m sharing video clips from the conversation over on Instagram. It was so fun to see friends and family come together to celebrate, including a bunch of other local authors.
I’ve also loved hearing from friends and family all over the country that they’ve received their copies and have started reading. And a few of you have already finished reading too! I’m hearing it’s the kind of book you can read in one day — quite a compliment!
On Saturday, I stopped by City Lit in Logan Square to sign copies and chat with the booksellers. That’s always really fun for me! It’s also a great example of how I “do it all.” We fit this bookstore trip in to a family movie afternoon to see the new Spiderman movie at the Logan Theater. (So good by the way — a movie worth seeing in theaters.)
I also was excited to see that Red Woman is being carried by some Barnes & Nobles throughout the country! So many of you ordered your copy (copies?) at B&N and that really made the difference. I so appreciate that!
One of the coolest things this week is seeing Red Woman on the homepage of Kirkus. Kirkus is a trade review publication notorious for being mean in their book reviews, but they gave my book a great review! You can read the whole review here.
So, naturally, everyone is asking me how the book is doing. It’s so hard to say! I’ve written a lot about how I wish I had more access to data, and I won’t truly have a clear picture of this period of sales until I receive a royalty statement in the spring of 2027.
Amazon gives me the most data on sales, and it’s always fun to hit those orange banners. Otherwise . . . I’ll do a deep dive into data in a few weeks.
Mostly, I’m trying to be zen about everything. If you were at my launch, you heard me talk about all the projects in various stages that I’m working on that I’m not telling the internet about quite yet. The Red Woman on Mars proved to me that writing a novel wasn’t a one-time thing for me. I feel like my author career is just getting started!
